Metal legends “Nile” and “Melechesh” to play in Riga at the end of March

On Thursday, 31st March, club “Melna Piektdiena” will host a long-awaited performance. Technical death metal masters “Nile” from the USA will return to Riga with a show. The legendary band will be supported by “Melechesh” and “Embryo”.

Nile 30.3 Ryga

“Nile” began their activity in 1993. The only founding member left in the current line-up is Karl Sanders, who is also their songwriter and lyricist as well as an aficionado of all things Egyptian. He is rightly considered to be one of the best death metal guitarists in the world. The formula that makes “Nile” unique is the combination of the technical death metal and traditional Middle Eastern music with Karl Sanders’ deep knowledge of Egyptian and other Middle Eastern cultures. The result of this successful symbiosis is an extremely complex, fast music with lyrics that tell stories of the ancient cultural heritage. “Nile” is one of the most powerful bands on the stage of modern death metal. The only thing that could lower the excitement of their skill that they showcase with every new record is the fact that the listeners and critics are so used to receiving an exclusive greatness from this band that each accomplishment is considered a norm and a natural confirmation of their uniqueness.

There are eight full-length albums in the band’s discography, including the genre classics “Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka” (1998), “In Their Darkened Shrines” (2002), “Ithyphallic” (2007), “At the Gate of Sethu” (2012) as well as their newest record – “What Should Not Be Unearthed” (2015).

What makes the event even more special is the band “Melechesh”, who will blast the club stage together with “Nile”. “Melechesh” began their journey in 1993, Israel. They quickly emigrated to the Netherlands, because it became increasingly difficult to play black metal and clash with the local religious groups in their native city at the same time. The founder of the band – Armenian-Assyrian musician Ashmedi and his comrades – have in a way started a new style within the metal genre – Mesopotamian metal. The main ideology of it is the occult that roots in the Mesopotamian and Sumerian mythology.

There are six full-length albums in the band’s account, beginning with the controversial “As Jerusalem Burns…Al’Intisar” (1996) and their newest, the critically acclaimed “Enki” (2015).
